WHAT'S THE "CLEAN WATERS & HEALTHY FORESTS" BALLOT QUESTION?

On November 5th, 2024, voters in our district will have the opportunity to make a critical decision about the future of New Mexico’s natural resources. The “Clean Waters & Healthy Forests” ballot measure, led by the Ciudad Soil & Water Conservation District, proposes a modest levy of up to 0.25 mills that will generate over $6 million annually to fund vital conservation projects.

The Ciudad Soil & Water Conservation District is a local government agency dedicated to promoting the conservation, improvement, and responsible use of natural resources across both rural and urban lands. Established under New Mexico law, this district has a long history of protecting our water, soil, and forests to ensure the health, safety, and well-being of our communities. By voting YES, you are supporting the District’s mission to safeguard these critical resources for current and future generations.

What Will the "Clean Waters & Healthy Forests" Question Do?

The funds generated by this ballot question will be managed by the Ciudad Soil & Water Conservation District and will be used to:

Protect Drinking Water Sources

By improving stormwater and floodplain management, the District will safeguard our water supply and ensure that future generations have access to clean, safe drinking water.

Reduce Wildfire Risks

The measure will fund efforts to improve the health of our forests, particularly in the Sandia and Manzano ranges, reducing the risk of catastrophic wildfires that threaten our homes and communities.

Restore Wildlife Habitats

The District will restore vital ecosystems along the Rio Grande and other areas, providing a safe haven for local wildlife and maintaining biodiversity.

Preserve Agricultural Land

By partnering with local farmers, the District will promote healthy soil practices that sustain our agricultural heritage and support local food production.

Conserve Natural Areas

The measure will fund the restoration and maintenance of natural areas and open spaces, providing equitable access to the outdoors for all members of our community.

Provide Education

Our youth and adults will benefit from natural resources education programs, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the environment.
